The best hotels to stay in Paris (updated 2025)

From cheap to boutique to all-out luxury, the best hotels in Paris have something for everyone – here are our top picks

Advertising

If any city in the world were oversaturated with hotels, it’d be Paris. So a list of the ‘best hotels in Paris’ is casting a pretty wide net. The city has over 1,600 hotels in total, ranging from tiny new boutiques to grand historic hotels charging £25,000 a night – and we wanted to make sure every kind of hotel was represented on this list: the luxurious, the downright cheap, and everything in between. Whatever your vibe in the City of Light, you’ll find a hotel for you here.

What is the best area to stay in Paris?

As will surprise no one, the ‘best’ area to stay in Paris is pretty subjective across its 20 arrondissements and 80 or so neighbourhoods. But we do have some pointers. If it’s your first time in the city, you’ll probably want to be as close to the city centre as possible to tick off those major attractions, so anywhere near the 1st arrondissement – Tuileries, the Marais, St-Germain – would be a good bet. If you’re on a budget, however, you’ll find that cheaper options are usually further out in the 15th, 18th, 19th, 20th – and even on the outskirts of the city. Don’t worry, you’ll still be in on the action – this is where the locals hang out, anyway. For the full rundown, here’s our ultimate guide to where to stay in Paris

Verdict: the best hotel in Paris right now

Opened in 2021 near the Opéra Garnier, Château Voltaire is a chic five-storey hotel with 32 sumptuous rooms dressed in fringed velvet, gothic details and vintage florals. If it sounds like anywhere else, it’s not – this stood out to us from any opening from the last decade. Here guests mingle over cocktails, share stories, and dine on posh bistro fare at the very nice restaurant; highlights include a stone-clad spa with a private pool, luxe branded toiletries, and Parisian breakfasts.

Verdict: best for high-end luxury

Le Meurice, a palace hotel near the Louvre, has been a Paris landmark since 1835 and a favourite of Dalí, Liz Taylor and royals alike. Designed by Philippe Starck, its 160 rooms retain traditional grandeur with Louis XIV furniture and ivory walls. The dining room rivals Versailles, with chandeliers, frescos, marble, and a Michelin-starred menu by Alain Ducasse. Unsurprisingly, it’s pricey – rooms start at over £1,000, while the rooftop suite can cost up to £25,000 a night.

Time Out tip: Ask staff to show you the room where Pablo Picasso married ballerina Olga Khokhlova in 1918, a grand parlour which is now reserved for private events.

Rooms are compact (from 10m²) but thoughtfully designed with velvet and burr elm touches, creating snug, elegant nests.

Verdict: the best boutique hotel in Paris

Madame Rêve has been getting all the hype over the last few years – and once we visited, we could see why. Housed in a former post office, this boutique hotel is chic and smart without being prententious. Expect warm wood, marble, and artful details throughout. Highlights include a vast rooftop terrace with jaw-dropping views of the Eiffel Tower and Sacré Cœur, sleek rooms with panoramic windows, and a moody ground-floor bar.

Time Out tip: You really can’t beat this location –the Louvre and Centre Pompidou are just around the corner, as are iconic landmarks like Notre-Dame.

Verdict: the best hotel in the Latin Quarter

Unless you’re a second-year engineering student, there haven’t been many compelling reasons to stop off at Jussieu – until now. Designed by architecture firm Cyril Durand-Behar, this seven-storey cube topped with a panoramic rooftop has 53 rooms, many of them long corridors which give them the feel of small apartments. Expect soothing palettes of beige and mottled grey, lifted by red and orange 70s-style sofas, light wooden flooring, and beds so comfy you’ll abandon any plans of swinging from the chandeliers. Add to that the ultimate boho getaway kit: Smeg kettle, L:a Bruket toiletries, etc, and you’ve got a romantic rendezvous on the right side of the Seine.

Time Out tip: The cocktail bar here is well worth checking out, which cleverly reimagines old-school classics.

Verdict: best for an Eiffel Tower view

Tucked between the Bois de Boulogne and the Trocadéro, directly in line with the Eiffel Tower, Brach Paris is a thing of beauty, blending Art Brut, Cubism and Surrealism. There are just 59 rooms, and the most expensive of which have fantastic Eiffel Tower views – but you can also see her in all her glory from its very nice rooftop bar, Le Rooftop Du Brach, which also happens to do rather brilliant cocktails, and has its own herb garden, vegetable patch, and chicken coop. Verdict: the most romantic hotel in Paris

Hotel Lancaster, just off the Champs-Élysées, is a beautifully modernised hotel which stays true to its glamorous history, which was once a 1920s mansion hosting stars like Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich. The Marlene Suite features her original Érard piano, while rooms offer courtyard or Eiffel Tower views. Chef Sébastien Giroud leads Monsieur restaurant, and CopperBay runs the Mediterranean-inspired bar and terrace. You’re right off the Champs Elysée here (and a 10-minute walk from the Arc de Triomphe), and perfectly situated for shopping and sightstseeing.

Time Out tip: Le Clarence, our best restaurant in Paris for 2024, is right around the corner. Make sure to book well in advance.

8. Hôtel Panache

Verdict: best affordable boutique hotel in Paris

The bourgeois-bohemian Hotel Panache is on the corner of Poissonnière, one of the liveliest streets in the 9th, and is comprised of 38 very Parisian rooms decorated by the excellent Dorothée Meilichzon – who also designed the Hotel Paradis. It may be three-starred but it has serious class: with damask, gilded wood, printed carpet and Parisian metro bathroom tiles,  this is neo-art deco design at its finest. Rooms (12m2 for a single and 25m2 for a deluxe) are comfortable, functional and full of thoughtful details like fortune cookies, welcome messages and replica 1931 Ericsson replica telephones.

Time Out tip: If you’re after more space, head to the Capsule apartment on the first floor, complete with a small garden and terrace under the roof.

Verdict: the best family-friendly hotel in Paris

Between the Pont des Arts and the Pont Neuf, a five-star hotel casts its shadow over the City of Light. The décor feels like a design museum – you can literally sit on furniture by Maria Pergay or Charlotte Perriand, across from paintings by Sonia Delaunay – but the draw if you’re with the kids is how incredibly family-friendly this hotel is. There’s the hotel’s stunning on-site crèche Le Carrousel, a treasure hunt to book onto, and a Dior collection for the very little ones of very posh linen, toys and the likes.

Verdict: the best hotel in St-Germain-des-Pres

Le Grand Hôtel Cayré in Saint-Germain-des-Prés blends vintage bohemian charm with modern comfort. Reopened in 2024 after a full renovation, it features 123 rooms across seven floors, with three service tiers to suit different budgets. Expect Le Labo toiletries, Mariage Frères tea, and plush beds in every room. The on-site brasserie, Annette, helmed by Bruno Brangea, holds its own in this foodie neighbourhood. A clever ‘refresh room’ lets guests shower pre or post check-in – perfect for a stylish, practical stay.

Time Out tip: Grab a coffee from the legendary Café de Flore round the corner – it’s open until 2am!

11. TRIBE Paris Saint-Ouen

  • 4 out of 5 stars

Verdict: best for digital nomads

TRIBE Paris Saint-Ouen taps into the trendy co-living concept with an American-style twist. The idea is to rethink the hotel as a kind of giant shared flat – a laid-back space that’s great for remote working. Already established in Batignolles and La Défense, the TRIBE brand stands out for combining style and modern comfort at relatively affordable prices. The spacious communal areas are designed as extensions of the rooms (which range from 17 to 24 m2), and are ideal for settling in from morning to night with a coffee or a ‘nolo’ cocktail (no or low alcohol). They’ve even become popular with locals from the surrounding area.

Verdict: the best hotel for Christmas in Paris

Thanks to a frontage dripping with thousands of red geraniums, Hôtel Plaza Athénée is one of Paris’s most instantly recognisable hotels. You’ve seen it in fashion lookbooks, celebrity shoots and Sex and the City, and in real life it’s just as impressive. With 154 rooms and 54 suites, there’s a gentle art deco energy to the place, especially in its thrilling 1930s-built restaurant, Le Relais Plaza. But during the Christmas season, this hotel is the place to be. From November, it morphs into its very own winter wonderland, with a festive ice rink (Nov-Jan), a huge Christmas tree and a chalet serving raclette.

Time Out tip: Check out Le Relais de l’Entrecôte down the road for possibly the most famous steak in the world.

Verdict: the most beautiful hotel in Paris

Right around the corner from Le Meurice and the Ritz, Maison Barrière offers something quite different. The vibe here is that of a luxury townhouse, where sumptuous furnishings and spacious suites (some of which have full kitchens, where guests can cook for themselves using recipes and ingredients provided by the hotel’s restaurant team) allow guests to live out the fantasy of owning a Parisian pied-à-terreEach room and suite is named after a notable woman, ranging from Marie Curie to Nina Simone, and interior designer Daniel Jibert incorporates nods to their lives in the rooms’ décor. Frida, the hotel’s bar-restaurant, is a colourful tribute to Frida Kahlo, and it’s got a lovely courtyard for dining in summer.

Verdict: the best spa hotel in Paris

This neoclassical hotel feels more like a manor house, tucked behind a gravel courtyard with a grand fountain. Inside, the décor is equally striking, blending neoclassicism and Art Deco with striking furniture and warm-toned prints. But what many come here for is its spa, Spa Guerlain, which is 400m2 in total with an indoor pool, fitness centre and hammam, and a number of bookable spa treatments. The pool area is stunning: high ceilings, marble walls and studded with Greco-Roman details and sculptures by French artist François Mascarello.

Verdict: best hotel in Belleville

Travel far without leaving the city – that’s the quirky concept dreamed up by hotel entrepreneur Joris Bruneel and Franco-Afghan chef Claire Feral-Akram, Babel. This Belleville hotel invites guests to explore the world while staying rooted in the local neighbourhood. Many of the 31 rooms prove size isn’t everything: olive-green walls, speckled mirrors, delightfully kitschy posters and books by Ettore Sottsass. It’s cosy – even the shower. Downside: soundproofing isn’t the best. Upside: rooms start around €100, and the thoughtful touches make a real difference (+1 for the pastries from La Rose de Tunis, enjoyed with a coffee from La Brûlerie de Jourdain!).

Verdict: the best hotel near the Eurostar

Hotel Les Deux Gares is a ridiculously fun hotel straight out of Wes Anderson’s playbook that pops with colour and character at every turn. Rooms feature dizzying wallpaper, bold furniture and checkerboard bathrooms, and they’re, small, sure (and so are the corridors), but at this price, we’re certainly not complaining. Its best feature? That’s the location. Sure, you might look out of your window onto a sea of railway tracks, but that’s the small price you pay for being able to roll out of bed and be in the queue for the Eurostar (or a different train) in under 10 minutes. There’s no better spot for travellers who hate the stress of travel – and let’s be honest, isn’t that all of us?

Time Out Tip: Don’t forget to make use of the sauna which is tucked away in the basement – an excellent way to unwind after a day out in the city.

Verdict: the best hotel in the Marais

Behind a discreet façade overlooking the Carreau du Temple lies Maison Proust, where tapestries, lighting, woodwork, and furnishings are all crafted by the finest French artisans, and feel plucked from the world of Marcel Proust. Across the six floors are 23 rooms and suites, each themed around a figure linked to or inspired by Proust. Many of them are compact, but they offer pocket-sized luxury: charming intimacy, bathtubs tucked under alcoves, and beds so inviting you’ll find it incredibly difficult to get out of them. Proust may have been a hypochondriac, but above all, he was a man of taste – and he surely would have found this place to be perfectly to his liking.

Verdict: the best hotel in Pigalle

Tucked below Montmartre and a three-minute walk from Pigalle metro station, you’ll find Grand Pigalle Experimental. Rooms here are small and sometimes plain but comfortable, with lots of thoughtful touches (including a plug adaptor). But the stand-out here? That’s Frenchie Pigalle, the hotel’s restaurant. Here, chef Gregory Marchand cooks up his ‘sexy-trash’ dishes, a descriptor that belies the serious skill and refinement on display here. Breakfast is equally as delicious and at €23, for the sheer volume of what you get included, it’s ridiculously good value too.

Time Out tip: Fancy a night out? Head to La Machine du Moulin Rouge, one of the best clubs in the city, right next to the iconic Moulin Rouge.

Verdict: the best hotel in the Opera District

M Social Hotel Paris Opera was first opened in 1927 as the Hotel Commodore, and it still has lovely art deco bones: the vintage lifts with their wood panels and brass accents, the endless marble staircase, the glass dome in the lobby. Rooms have fabulous boulevard views, there’s a noon check-out time, and you’re incredibly well placed here to visit nearby Pigalle, the Louvre, and to get stuck into Paris’s best shopping area, Galeries Lafayette. The breakfast buffet in the Papillons & Co restaurant downstairs will fuel you up for a full day’s gallivanting down those Haussmannian boulevards.

Verdict: the best hotel near Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris is located just outside the town of Chessy, which isn’t exactly a picture-perfect taste of rural France – but that’s not why you’re here. Hotel l'Elysee Val d'Europe is not quite a boutique hotel (though it bills itself as one), but more a comfy, family-friendly hotel, with pretty much everything you need (a Nespresso machine, for example). Both its George restaurant and Diplomat bar are perfectly charming, and the menu will suit any international taste, as well as your children’s. The best part? Staff are incredibly knowledgable about Disneyland. When you make the journey to the happiest place on earth, it’s a few minutes away by the free shuttle that leaves from just outside the hotel. Or walk – it’s about 20 minutes.
